Signature of the concession agreement for the generation of electricity between the State of Cameroon and Nachtigal Hydro Power Company

20-04-17 15:03

The Minister of Water and Energy and the General Manager of Nachtigal Hydro Power Company (NHPC) have signed this Thursday April 20th 2017 the concession agreement for the generation of electricity within the framework of the development of the Nachtigal Amont hydroelectric facility.

The signature of this agreement marks an important step in the implementation of this project listed in the Electric Sector Master Plan (PDSE 2035). It makes NHPC the concession holder of the hydroelectric facility of Nachtigal amont for a period of 35 years and thus holder of land rights on the project site.

As a reminder, Nachtigal Amont is a hydroelectric project developed by Nachtigal Hydro Power Company (NHPC) created in 2016, and owned by the State of Cameroon (30%), International Financial Corporation (IFC) (30%) and Electricité De France International (EDFI) (40%), for the construction of a dam, a 420MW hydro powerplant on the Sanaga river and a 225kV electricity transmission line. The hydroelectric facility will produce on average 2,9 TWh thanks to the regulation of the flows by Mbakaou and Lom Pangar reservoirs.

Among the latest important project developments, we can mention:

  • The selection of four EPC contractors following a tender process;

  • The implementation of the environmental and social action plans that were validated in mid-2016;

  • The signature of the expropriation decrees for the lands of the hydroelectric facility.

The financial closing of the project is expected by end of 2017.
